Dangote Cement Inducts 200 Graduate Trainees, Reinforces Commitment to Skills Development and Local Capacity Building

Lagos, Nigeria – January 25, 2026 – Dangote Cement Plc has officially inducted nearly 200 newly trained engineers and professionals into its workforce, marking the successful completion of its prestigious Graduate Trainee Program. The induction reinforces the company’s dedication to job creation, skills development, and strengthening local technical expertise across Nigeria.

The trainees, drawn from diverse fields including engineering, finance, and IT, completed an intensive 18-month programme that combined classroom learning at the Dangote Academy with hands-on training across the company’s four plants and Head Office. Designed as a structured development journey, the Graduate Trainee Program grooms high-potential professionals for leadership roles through cross-functional exposure, executive mentorship, and real-world project execution.

During the program, trainees gained practical industry experience and benefitted from mentorship by seasoned professionals, with several now integrated across Dangote Cement’s operations in Nigeria and other African countries.

Dangote Cement emphasized that the induction reflects its ongoing commitment to providing meaningful employment opportunities and building indigenous technical expertise across its operations.

In addition to the induction, the company celebrated outstanding staff through Long Service Awards and Hall of Fame Employee Awards, recognizing employees’ dedication and alignment with Dangote Cement’s core values of customer focus, entrepreneurship, excellence, and leadership. Award recipients, each with a minimum of five years of service, received substantial monetary rewards for their contributions.

Speaking at the Lagos ceremony, Managing Director and CEO Mr. Arvind Pathak highlighted the dual purpose of the event.

“We are honoring staff for their long service and celebrating our graduate trainees completing their induction,” Pathak said. He commended employees’ resilience amid challenging economic conditions, noting Dangote Cement’s strong performance in 2025 despite a difficult operating environment.

“Your commitment and high performance have enabled us to maintain our position as Africa’s leading cement producer,” Pathak added. The company targets a production capacity of 90 million metric tonnes per annum across the continent by 2030, positioning Nigeria as a net exporter of cement to neighboring nations.

Acting Group Human Resources Officer, Mr. Ahmed Ladan Gobir, described the Graduate Trainee Program as a strategic initiative to equip young engineers with world-class skills and deep industry exposure.

“Nigeria’s greatest asset is its young people, and at Dangote Cement we are deliberate about empowering them with the skills and opportunities needed to succeed,” Gobir stated.

The Programme Coordinator, Mr. Iyal H. Abdulkareem, recognized four exceptional graduate trainees—Engr. Mary Nnana, Engr. Ahmad Sunusi Abdullahi, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Ahmed, and Engr. Ebenezer Afonja—for their exemplary industrial competence. Their contributions included improving reporting and customer administration systems, carrying out equipment alignments and dynamic balancing, developing plant performance tracking templates, and supporting the installation and commissioning of MIS servers and cement mill optimization systems at the Obajana and Okpella plants.

Dangote Cement’s induction of its newest professionals not only celebrates individual achievement but also underscores the company’s vision for building a skilled, locally empowered workforce capable of sustaining Africa’s industrial growth.
